# Schedule videos to Buffer from your video editor

> TL;DR: Yes, you can schedule videos to Buffer without leaving your editor. Vidiyo connects to your Buffer account, uploads the approved export to your own storage bucket, and creates the Buffer post for Instagram, X, LinkedIn or YouTube at the time you set. Buffer sends it, even while your Mac sleeps. Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels.

The usual route from edit to post is export, find the file, open a scheduler in the browser, upload, write the caption again, pick a time. Vidiyo collapses that into the place you already are. The idea, the edit, the cover and the post live in one project, and Buffer handles the part it's good at: holding your social accounts and sending each post on time.

## Can I schedule videos to Buffer from Vidiyo?

Yes. Vidiyo talks to Buffer through Buffer's API with a key you create. From an idea in Vidiyo's calendar, you pick a Buffer channel, write the caption, set the time, review and approve. Vidiyo uploads the video and creates the Buffer post. Buffer publishes it at that time from its own servers, so your Mac can be asleep.

| Platform in Buffer | How Vidiyo posts it | Custom cover |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Instagram | Reel, shared to the feed | Yes |
| X | Video post | No, add on the platform |
| LinkedIn | Video post | No, add on the platform |
| YouTube | Short, with your title, People & Blogs category | No, add in YouTube Studio |

## How do I set up Buffer publishing in Vidiyo?

You need a Buffer account, a storage bucket and about ten minutes. Buffer's API [doesn't accept direct uploads](https://developers.buffer.com/guides/hosting-media.md): a video must be a public link that keeps working until the post goes out. That's what the bucket is for.

1. **In Buffer**, connect your Instagram, X, LinkedIn or YouTube channels, then create an API key under Settings → API.
2. **Create a bucket** in Cloudflare R2 or any S3-compatible store. Turn on public access through a custom domain or R2's development URL, and create an access key with read and write access to that bucket. Cloudflare [rate-limits](https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/buckets/public-buckets/) the r2.dev URL and recommends it only for development, so use a custom domain for regular posting.
3. **In Vidiyo**, open Settings → Publishing and add the Buffer key, the bucket's S3 API URL, its public URL and the access key pair.
4. Choose **Check connection**. It lists your Buffer channels and sends a small test file through the public link.

Keys are encrypted on your Mac and only sent to the service they belong to. They never reach the assistant.

## What happens when I approve a post?

Approval is a deliberate step. Reviewing a post ties it to the exact version of the caption, time and export you looked at. Change anything and it needs another review.

When you approve, Vidiyo:

1. Rechecks the export's checksum, so the file is exactly what you reviewed.
2. Uploads it to your bucket under an unguessable name.
3. Confirms the public link answers.
4. Creates the Buffer post, scheduled for your time, or sent now if the time is blank.

Posts that share an export reuse one upload. The video is deleted from your bucket once no unfinished post needs it.

## How does Vidiyo keep track of scheduled posts?

The Posts list groups everything into Needs attention, Upcoming, Drafts and Published. Vidiyo checks a post's status only after its time arrives, so it stays well within Buffer's API limits, and **Refresh** checks everything on demand. A post is marked Published, with a link, only when Buffer reports it sent.

If Buffer rejects a post and nothing was created, it's marked Failed and you can approve it again. If Vidiyo can't confirm whether Buffer received a request, the post is marked Needs review and is never retried automatically, because a repeat could post twice. Cancelling deletes the Buffer post, unless Buffer is already sending it.

## Can the AI schedule posts for me?

It can prepare them, not send them. Ask "schedule it for Friday, 9 am" and the assistant drafts the post, writes a caption from what the video actually says and picks the cover for Instagram. It can't approve, connect accounts or publish. You review and approve every post yourself.

The calendar around it helps with planning: ideas move from Idea through Scripting, Filming and Editing to Scheduled and Posted, and the last two follow the posts automatically. See [content calendar and scheduling](https://getvidiyo.app/features/content-calendar-and-scheduling).

## How do custom covers work with Buffer?

Buffer's API takes no thumbnail image. On Instagram it picks a frame of the video by its time instead. So Vidiyo uploads a copy of the export with your cover appended as a 0.2-second still, and points Buffer's cover frame at the middle of it. Viewers see the cover for the last 0.2 seconds of the Reel. YouTube, X and LinkedIn have no cover input in Buffer, so download the cover from Exports and add it on the platform.

## What does it cost?

Vidiyo is free during its invite-only beta. Buffer's [free plan](https://buffer.com/pricing) covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel and includes an API key. If you post to more channels, you'll need a paid Buffer plan. Storage costs depend on your bucket provider, and videos are removed once posted, so the bucket stays small.

## Why go through Buffer instead of posting directly?

Because Buffer already does the hard parts well. It holds the authorisation for each social network, keeps up with their publishing rules and sends posts on time from its servers. Posting directly would mean Vidiyo running its own publishing server and passing each platform's app review, and your Mac would have to be awake at posting time. With Buffer, your accounts stay in a service you control, and you can still see and edit every scheduled post in Buffer itself. When the assistant plans your week, it can see what Buffer already has due, including posts you made in Buffer directly.

## What's private and what leaves my Mac?

Only the approved export, its caption, title and time leave your Mac, to your bucket and Buffer. Source footage and projects stay local. Note that anyone holding a video's public link can watch it until it's deleted after posting, which is why the file name is unguessable.

## Honest limits

- Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels.
- You need your own S3-compatible bucket with public access. Anyone holding a video's link can watch it until it's deleted after posting.
- Custom covers work on Instagram only.
- Video posts only: no text-only posts, carousels, analytics or inbox.
- Instagram needs a professional account connected in Buffer.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I schedule a video to Buffer directly from a video editor?

Yes, with Vidiyo. After you export, you pick a Buffer channel, write the caption, set the time and approve. Vidiyo uploads the video and creates the Buffer post, and Buffer publishes it at that time.

### Which platforms can Vidiyo schedule to through Buffer?

Instagram (as a Reel shared to the feed), X, LinkedIn and YouTube Shorts. You connect those channels in Buffer itself; Vidiyo lists the channels Buffer has.

### Does Vidiyo work with Buffer's free plan?

Yes. Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel and includes an API key, which is what Vidiyo uses. More channels or posts need a paid Buffer plan.

### Why does Vidiyo need a storage bucket to post to Buffer?

Buffer's API doesn't accept video uploads. It needs a public link to the video that keeps working until the post goes out. Vidiyo uploads the approved export to your own bucket, then deletes it once no pending post needs it.

### Does my Mac need to stay on for scheduled posts?

No. Once Vidiyo creates the post, Buffer holds it and sends it at its time from Buffer's servers. Your Mac can sleep or be off.

### Can I set a custom cover image when scheduling through Buffer?

On Instagram, yes: Vidiyo appends your cover as a short still at the end of the video and points Buffer's cover frame at it. On YouTube, X and LinkedIn, Buffer has no cover input, so you add the thumbnail on the platform.
