# How do I export a video from Vidiyo?

> TL;DR: Click Export at the top right, check the summary (MP4, H.264, resolution, 30 fps, duration) and choose Export video. Pick where to save it. Vidiyo renders on your Mac, validates the file and only then saves it. Output is 1080p at 30 fps: 1080×1920, 1920×1080 or 1080×1080. Captions are burned in.

Export in Vidiyo uses the same renderer as the preview, so what you watched is what you get. There are few settings on purpose: the format is fixed and the size follows the project's aspect ratio.

## What format does Vidiyo export?

Vidiyo exports MP4 files with H.264 video and AAC audio at 30 fps. The size depends on the project's aspect ratio:

| Aspect ratio | Output size | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 9:16 (vertical) | 1080 × 1920 | Reels, TikTok, Shorts |
| 1:1 (square) | 1080 × 1080 | Feed posts |
| 16:9 (landscape) | 1920 × 1080 | YouTube, LinkedIn, X |

Change the aspect ratio with the 9:16 · 1:1 · 16:9 switch above the preview, or in the project inspector. Timelines can be up to 5 minutes long.

## How do I export?

Click **Export** at the top right. A popover shows the format (MP4 · H.264), resolution, frame rate and duration. Click **Export video…**, choose where to save, and the button shows progress. When it's done, **Last export · Show in Finder** opens the file's folder.

The assistant can export too. Exports it starts go to Movies/Vidiyo, named after the video.

## What does Vidiyo check during export?

Every export is checked before it's saved. Vidiyo freezes the project at that moment, so later edits don't leak in, renders it, encodes the audio locally, and validates the MP4 (H.264, 30 fps, frame count, AAC, duration). Only a file that passes is saved; cancelling or a disk error removes partial files.

For a deeper check, ask "Review it before I export," or run a review after exporting. The review listens to the exported file and checks loudness and peaks, black or frozen picture, long silences, duration and whether every word the cut should contain is audible. Findings appear as comments on the timeline.

## Where do exports show up?

Each export is listed in **Exports** on the home view, where you can play it, see which posts use it, and show it in Finder. Exporting from a board card saves a fixed copy for publishing, so a scheduled post can't change underneath you.

## How do I export a thumbnail?

Switch the editor to **Thumbnail** at the top, select a version, then use **Export** to download it as PNG or JPG. Generating thumbnails needs your own OpenAI or Gemini API key.

## What doesn't export do?

There is no 4K, no 60 fps, no ProRes or HEVC option, and no separate caption track inside the MP4. Speed changes and slow motion aren't available in the editor, so they can't be exported either.

## Steps

1. Choose the aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1 or 16:9) above the preview before you finish the edit.
2. Click Export at the top right of the editor.
3. Check the format, resolution, frame rate and duration in the popover.
4. Click Export video… and choose a name and folder.
5. Wait for the progress to finish, then use Last export · Show in Finder.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can Vidiyo export in 4K or 60 fps?

No. Vidiyo exports 1080p at 30 fps today. That covers Reels, TikTok, Shorts, YouTube, LinkedIn and X, but not 4K or high frame rate delivery.

### Are captions included in the export?

Yes, captions are burned into the video. If you also need a separate subtitle file, export an SRT from the Captions tab.

### Does export upload anything?

No. Export renders and encodes on your Mac. A video only leaves your Mac when you schedule a post through Buffer, which uploads that export to your own storage bucket.

### Can I cancel an export?

Yes. Click the Export button while it shows progress and choose Cancel export. Partial files are removed, and an earlier export at the same path is kept.
