# Vidiyo for Indian creators: Hindi, Hinglish and Indian-language videos

> TL;DR: Vidiyo transcribes Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and five more Indian languages on your Mac with its language pack, and edits by chat on your Claude or ChatGPT plan. Hindi comes out in Devanagari, so Hinglish captions need some words fixed by hand. Everything else, from cuts to scheduled Reels, works the same as in English.

Vidiyo is a Mac video editor you direct by chat. For Indian creators the questions are practical: does it understand my language, what happens with Hinglish, and does it fit Reels and Shorts. The short answers are yes for Hindi and nine more Indian languages, partly for Hinglish, and yes for vertical short-form.

## Which Indian languages does Vidiyo transcribe?

Vidiyo transcribes ten Indian languages plus English on your Mac. English uses a built-in model. Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada and Malayalam use the language pack, a one-time download of about 575 MB. You pick the language in Settings → Transcription, or choose **Detect automatically**.

| Language | Model | Script in captions |
|---|---|---|
| English | Built-in English model (about 490 MB) | Roman |
| Hindi | Language pack | Devanagari |
| Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam | Language pack | Usually the language's own script |
| Mixed Hinglish | Language pack (try Detect automatically) | Mixed; fix words by hand |

Transcription is local and offline once the model is downloaded. Audio never leaves your Mac.

## What happens with Hinglish?

Hinglish works, with some hand-fixing. Whisper writes Hindi in Devanagari, so a sentence like "yeh feature bahut useful hai" may come out partly in Devanagari. For Roman-script Hinglish captions, the path is:

1. In Settings → Transcription, set **Spoken language** to **Detect automatically** (the app suggests this for Hinglish).
2. Generate captions in the **Captions** tab.
3. Open the **Transcript** list and retype the words that came out in the wrong script.
4. Pick a caption style. Your corrections stay attached to each word, so later cuts keep them.

You can also ask the assistant: "Write these captions in Roman-script Hinglish." Check the result, because it's working from the transcript it was given. For a long video, budget a few minutes of fixing.

## How does a Reel go from raw take to posted?

The workflow is the same as in English:

1. **Record and import.** Drop your take into a 9:16 project.
2. **First cut.** "Cut the pauses, the ums and the repeated lines. Start on the strongest line."
3. **Captions.** Generate them in your language, fix any words, then "bold word-by-word captions, clear of my face and the Reels buttons."
4. **Polish.** "Punch in on the key lines, quiet music under my voice, a whoosh on the cuts."
5. **Graphics.** "Put a counter on the number when I say it."
6. **Schedule.** Export, write the caption (or **Draft with AI**), and approve the Instagram post through Buffer. Instagram videos publish as Reels shared to the feed.

## How do I make English and Hinglish versions of the same video?

Make each version in its own project from the same footage, so both stay editable. Record the take in each language (or one take that mixes them), then:

1. Create one project with **Spoken language** set to English and generate English captions.
2. Create a second project, switch **Spoken language** to Hindi or **Detect automatically**, and generate captions there.
3. In the second project, fix the words you want in Roman script and pick a caption style that suits longer Hinglish lines.
4. Give both projects the same look in the **Brand** tab. Brand looks are per project, so set it in each, or ask the assistant to copy the colors and fonts.

## Does it handle Instagram Reels specifically?

Yes. In 9:16 projects, Vidiyo checks captions and graphics against the areas the Reels interface covers and moves them clear when you ask. Through Buffer, Instagram videos publish as Reels shared to the feed, and a Vidiyo thumbnail can be the Reel's cover. Instagram needs a professional account connected in Buffer.

## What can I say to Vidiyo?

Type requests the way you'd say them, in English or Hinglish:

- "Cut the ums and long pauses."
- "Start on the strongest line."
- "Isko 60 second ka Reel bana do."
- "Captions mere face se door rakho."
- "Music halka rakho, meri awaaz ke neeche."
- "Make an English version and a Hinglish version." (Keep each version in its own project.)
- "Write the Instagram caption from what I said."

## Which features matter most for Indian creators?

| Need | Vidiyo feature |
|---|---|
| Captions in your language | Local transcription with the language pack; word-level timing |
| Hinglish | Editable transcript; fixes stay attached to words |
| Short-form | 9:16 projects, safe-zone checks for Reels, Shorts and TikTok |
| Retention | Hook pass, punch-ins, B-roll from your clips or included stock |
| Sound | Bundled music and sound effects, music ducked under speech |
| Posting | Board, calendar and Buffer scheduling to Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and X |

## Why does running on my own AI plan matter?

You don't buy a second AI subscription. Chat runs on the Claude Pro or Max plan you already have through Claude Code, or your ChatGPT plan through Codex. Vidiyo is free during its invite-only beta.

## What are the honest limits?

Hinglish captions need some manual fixing because Hindi transcribes in Devanagari. Vidiyo is Mac only, on Apple Silicon with macOS 14 or later, so there's no Windows or phone version. Timelines stop at 5 minutes and export at 1080p, 30 fps. AI thumbnails need your own OpenAI or Gemini key. Buffer's free plan covers three channels.

If that works for you, [download Vidiyo](https://getvidiyo.app/download) and try it on your next Reel.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Vidiyo support Hindi captions?

Yes. With the language pack downloaded, set Spoken language to Hindi and generate captions. Hindi transcribes in Devanagari script, and every word is timed so highlight styles land on the spoken word.

### Can Vidiyo caption Hinglish in Roman script?

Partly. Hinglish speech often comes out with Hindi words in Devanagari. Try Detect automatically in Settings → Transcription, then retype the words you want in Roman script in the caption transcript. Your fixes stay attached through later cuts.

### Which Indian languages can Vidiyo transcribe?

Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada and Malayalam, plus English. All of them except English need the one-time language pack download of about 575 MB.

### Can I type my editing requests in Hinglish?

Yes. Chat runs on Claude or ChatGPT, which both read Hinglish, so you can write requests the way you talk. The editing tools are the same whichever language you type in.

### Does my audio get uploaded for transcription?

No. Transcription runs on your Mac with a local Whisper model. Your audio never leaves it, and it works offline after the model downloads.
