> TL;DR: Record a take, drop it into Vidiyo and ask for the edit. The assistant cuts pauses it confirms in the audio, removes filler and false starts, opens on your strongest line, punches in on key moments, adds word-by-word captions and ducks music under your voice. It checks real frames so captions stay off your face.

A talking-head video is mostly the same edit every time: cut the dead air, keep the best take of each line, open strong, add captions, put music underneath. Vidiyo is a Mac video editor you direct by chat, and its assistant does that edit from a sentence. It watches the actual frames, so it knows where your face is when it places captions and zooms.

## What does editing a talking-head video involve?

Most of the time goes into four jobs: removing pauses, filler words and repeated takes; picking the strongest opening line; adding variety so the frame doesn't sit still (punch-ins, B-roll, graphics); and captioning for people watching on mute. None of it is hard, but on a 10-minute raw take it's an hour of scrubbing. That's the part Vidiyo takes off your hands.

## How does a raw take become a finished video?

Here's the usual path from camera to scheduled post:

1. **Record.** Talk to the camera. Do multiple takes of a line if you stumble; don't stop to restart.
2. **Import.** Drop the file into a new project and pick 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9.
3. **First cut.** "Cut the ums, long pauses and repeated takes. Keep the best version of each line." Pauses are confirmed in the audio before they're cut, so you don't lose quiet words.
4. **Hook.** "Start on the strongest line." The assistant moves or trims the opening so the first second lands.
5. **Variety.** "Punch in on the key lines and cover the bigger jump cuts with B-roll."
6. **Captions.** "Bold word-by-word captions, clear of my face and the Reels buttons."
7. **Sound.** "Quiet music under my voice." Music ducks under speech; a voice that's uneven or noisy can be levelled and cleaned too.
8. **Review.** "Review it before I export." A critic checks the real frames and leaves findings as comments; fix them with **Fix with AI**.
9. **Post.** Export, or schedule through Buffer with a caption drafted from what you said.

Turn on plan mode in Settings → Assistant if you'd rather approve the plan before the first cut.

## How does Vidiyo decide what to cut?

It cuts pauses only when the audio confirms them. On import, Vidiyo marks stretches where both audio channels stay below −35 dB for at least 0.35 seconds as pause candidates. The assistant combines those with word timing from the transcript, so it removes real silence without clipping quiet words or breaths that carry meaning. For repeated takes it reads the story view, which shows each sentence as kept or cut, and keeps the best version. Word timing it's unsure of stays flagged for you to check.

## How should I record so the edit goes well?

Record the way you'd talk, and let the edit tidy it. If you stumble, pause and say the line again instead of stopping the recording; the assistant keeps the best take. Leave a breath before a key line so a punch-in has room. Record in a quiet room, since music can sit under your voice but can't hide echo. Keep your face in the upper part of a vertical frame so captions have space below it.

## What can I say to Vidiyo?

Short instructions work best. Talking-head requests people use:

- "Cut the ums and long pauses."
- "Start on the strongest line."
- "Make it 60 seconds for Reels."
- "Punch in when I say the number."
- "Put a counter on 160 GB."
- "Cover the jump cut with B-roll."
- "Keep the music under my voice."
- "Warm up the color."
- "End on the payoff and cut the outro."

## Why does it matter that the AI watches the frames?

Transcript-only editing can't see the picture. A transcript doesn't say where your face is, whether a caption covers your mouth, whether a cut lands mid-blink or a shot froze. Vidiyo measures faces and on-screen text, maps them through the current layout and zoom, and checks the composed frame after every edit. The assistant also looks at still frames it picks before deciding. See [chat video editing](https://getvidiyo.app/features/chat-video-editing).

## Can I keep the same look on every video?

Yes, per project. The **Brand** tab sets colors, fonts, the caption style and a motif for graphics, and linked text and captions follow it. Set it up on your first video, then ask the assistant to apply the same look in the next project. Settings → Memory also keeps notes on your preferences, so the assistant remembers how you like your cuts.

## What are the limits for talking-head videos?

Timelines stop at 5 minutes and export at 1080p, 30 fps. There's no speed control. Colour tools are basic: looks and sliders, not a grading suite. Hindi transcribes in Devanagari, so Hinglish captions need some words fixed by hand. It's Mac only.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Vidiyo remove silences and filler words automatically?

Yes, when you ask. Say "cut the ums and long pauses" and the assistant removes pauses it confirms in the audio and filler words from the transcript, while keeping every meaningful word. It all undoes in one step.

### Will the jump cuts look jarring?

The assistant can hide them with face-centred punch-ins that alternate framing between cuts, or cover them with B-roll from your clips or included stock.

### How does Vidiyo know where my face is?

It measures faces in your footage with Apple's Vision framework on your Mac, then checks captions, titles and graphics against those positions after every edit.

### Can I record directly in Vidiyo?

Record with your camera, phone or any Mac recording app, then import the file. Vidiyo edits what you recorded; the edit is where it saves you time.

### What length works best?

Anything that ends up under 5 minutes, which is the timeline limit. A project can hold up to 30 minutes of raw footage, so a long rambling take can become a tight 60-second piece.
